Ivan Petrovich Pavlov (1849-1936)

Awarded the Prize “in recognition of his work on the physiology of digestion, through which knowledge on vital aspects of the subject has been transformed and enlarged.”

Russian biologist. Pavlov was born on September 26, 1849 at Ryazan. In 1875 he received the degree of Candidate of Natural Sciences. He completed physiology course in 1879 at the Academy of Medical Surgery. In 1890 he was invited to organize and direct the Department of Physiology at the Institute of Experimental Medicine. In 1890 he was appointed Professor of Pharmacology at the Military Medical Academy. In 1907 he was elected Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Pavlov died in Leningrad on February 27, 1936.
