Paul Ehrlich (1854-1915)

Awarded the Prize “in recognition of his work on immunity.”

German biochemist. Ehrlich was born on March 14, 1854 at Strehlen (now in Poland). He was educated at the Universities of Breslau, Strassburg, Freiburg-im-Breisgau and Leipzig where in 1878 he obtained his doctorate of medicine. In 1882 he became Titular Professor and in 1887 he qualified as a Privatdozent in the Faculty of Medicine in the University of Berlin. He was Director of Institute for Serum Research and Serum Investigation and the Royal Institute of Experimental Therapy. Ehrlich died on August 20, 1915 at Bad Homburg.
