Emil Theodor Kocher (1841-1917)
Awarded the Prize “for his work on the physiology, pathology and surgery of the thyroid gland.”Swiss surgeon. Kocher was born on August 25, 1841, at Bern, Switzerland. He graduated in medicine from the University of Bern in 1865, and served as professor of clinical surgery at the University of Bern from 1872, remaining at the head of the University surgical clinic for 45 years. Kocher died on July 27, 1917 in Bern.
