Allvar Gullstrand (1862-1930)
Awarded the Prize “for his work on the dioptrics of the eye.”Swedish ophthalmologist. Gullstrand was born at Landskrona, Sweden on June 5, 1862. He was educated at the universities of Uppsala, Vienna, and Stockholm, where he graduated in medicine in 1888, and obtained his Ph.D. in 1890. He was appointed Lecturer in Ophthalmology in 1891. He was appointed the first Professor of Ophthalmology at Uppsala University in 1894. Gullstrand died in Stockholm on July 28, 1930.
