Robert Bárány (1876-1936)
Awarded the Prize “for his work on the physiology and pathology of the vestibular apparatus.”Austrian otologist. Bárány was born in Vienna on April 22, 1876. He graduated in medicine from the University of Vienna in 1900. After study at German clinics he became assistant at the ear clinic of the University of Vienna and, in 1909, a lecturer on otological medicine. From 1917 Bárány was appointed professor at Uppsala University, where he was head of the ear, nose, and throat clinic. Bárány died at Uppsala on April 8, 1936.
