Johannes Andreas Grib Fibiger (1867-1928)
Awarded the Prize “for his discovery of the Spiroptera carcinoma.”Danish pathologist. Fibiger was born in Silkeborg, Denmark on April 23, 1867. In 1883, Fibiger obtained his bachelor’s degree and qualified as a doctor in 1890. From 1891 to 1894 he worked at the Department of Bacteriology of Copenhagen University and received his doctorate in 1895. He was appointed Principal of the Laboratory of Clinical Bacteriology of the Army, Director of the Central Laboratory of the Army and Consultant Physician to the Army Medical Service. In 1900 he became Professor of Pathological Anatomy at Copenhagen University and Director of the Institute of Pathological Anatomy. Fibiger died in Copenhagen on January 30, 1928.
