Edgar Douglas Adrian (1889-1977)

Awarded the Prize “for his discoveries regarding the functions of neurons.”

British physiologist. Adrian was born on November 30, 1889, in London. From Trinity College, Cambridge, he took his B.A. degree in 1911 and medical degree in 1915. After working for a time on clinical neurology, he returned to Cambridge in 1919. He was made Fellow of the Royal Society in 1923. In 1929 he was elected Foulerton Professor of the Royal Society. In 1937, he became Professor of Physiology at the University of Cambridge and in 1951, was elected Master of Trinity College. Adrian was died in London on August 4, 1977.
