William Parry Murphy (1892-1987)

Awarded the Prize “for his discoveries concerning liver therapy in cases of anaemia.”

American physician. Murphy was born in Stoughton, Wisconsin, on February 6, 1892. He took his A.B. at the University of Oregon in 1914. In 1922, he graduated as a Doctor of Medicine from Harvard University. He worked as House Officer at the Rhode Island Hospital and became Assistant Resident Physician at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. From 1924 he was appointed Assistant, Instructor, Associate, Lecturer, Senior Associate and Emeritus Lecturer, at Harvard University. Murphy died in Brookline, Massachusetts, on October 9, 1987.
