Henrik Carl Peter Dam (1895-1976)

Awarded the Prize “for his discovery of vitamin K.”

Danish biochemist. Dam was born in Copenhagen on February 21, 1895. He graduated from the Polytechnic Institute, Copenhagen in 1920. He became Assistant Professor at the Institute of Biochemistry, Copenhagen, in 1928, and was awarded Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 1934. He obtained a Rockefeller Fellowship in 1932 and was appointed, at the Polytechnic Institute, Copenhagen, Professor of Biochemistry and Professor of Biochemistry and Nutrition. He was the leader of the Biochemical Division of the Danish Fat Research Institute. Dam died on April 18, 1976 in Copenhagen.
