
Walter Rudolf Hess (1881-1973)
Awarded the Prize “for his discovery of the functional organization of the interbrain as a coordinator of the activities of the internal organs.”Swiss physiologist. Hess was born on March 17, 1881 at Frauenfeld, Switzerland. He took his degree of Doctor of Medicine in 1906 at the University of Zurich. In 1917 he was nominated Director of the Physiological Institute at Zurich, with corresponding teaching responsibilities. Hess died on August 12, 1973 in Locarno, Switzerland.
