
Edward Calvin Kendall (1886-1972)
Awarded the Prize “for the discoveries relating to the hormones of the adrenal cortex, their structure and biological effects.”American physiochemist. Kendall was born on March 8, 1886 at South Norwalk, Connecticut. He was educated at Columbia University, taking his Bachelor of Science in 1908, Master of Science in 1909 and Ph.D. in 1910. He was Head of the Biochemistry Section in the Graduate School, Director of the Division of Biochemistry and Professor of Physiological Chemistry, of the Mayo Foundation, University of Minnesota. In 1951 he became Visiting Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at Princeton University. Kendall died on May 4, 1972 at Princeton.
