
Dickinson W. Richards (1895-1973)
Awarded the Prize “for the discoveries concerning heart catheterization pathological changes in the circulatory system.”American physiologist. Richards was born on October 30, 1895 in Orange, New Jersey. He was given his A.B. degree in 1917 at Yale University. He entered Columbia University College of Physicians Surgeons received his M.A. degree in 1922, his M.D. degree in 1923. In 1945 Richards was appointed Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Visiting Physician Director of the First (Columbia) Division of the Bellevue Hospital, New York, in 1947 he became Lambert Professor of Medicine. Richards died on February 23, 1973 at Lakeville, Connecticut.
