Hermann Emil Fischer (1852-1919)

Awarded the Prize “in recognition of the extraordinary services he has rendered by his work on sugar purine syntheses.”

German chemist. Fischer was born in Euskirchen, Germany on October 9, 1852. In 1872, he went to the University of Strasbourg, in 1874 he took his Ph.D. He was Associate Professor of Analytical Chemistry at Munich Professor of Chemistry at the University of Erlangen. In 1888 he was asked to become Professor of Chemistry at the University of Würzburg in 1892, when he was asked to take up the Chair of Chemistry at the University of Berlin. Fischer died on July 15, 1919 in Berlin.
