Svante August Arrhenius (1859-1927)
Awarded the Prize “in recognition of the extraordinary services he has rendered to the advancement of chemistry by his electrolytic theory of dissociation.”Swedish physical chemist. Arrhenius was born in Wijk, Sweden on February 19, 1859. He originally went to Uppsala University to study chemistry, changing later to physics gained his Ph.D. in 1884. In 1895 he became Professor of Physics there. He was the chief of the Nobel Institute for Physical Chemistry. He died at Stockholm on October 2, 1927.
