Johann F. W. A. von Baeyer (1835-1917)

Awarded the Prize “in recognition of his services in the advancement of organic chemistry the chemical industry, through his work on organic dyes hydroaromatic compounds.”

German chemist. Baeyer was born in Berlin on October 31, 1835. In 1858, he received his doctorate from the University of Berlin. In 1872 he was appointed Professor of Chemistry at Strasbourg in 1875 became a Professor of Chemistry at Munich, where he remained for the rest of his life. Baeyer died in Starnberger, Germany on August 20, 1917.
