Henri Moissan (1852-1907)

Awarded the Prize “in recognition of the great services rendered by him in his investigation isolation of the element fluorine, for the adoption in the service of science of the electric furnace called after him.”

French chemist. Moissan was born in Paris on September 28, 1852. His advanced education began in the Collége de Meaux later in the Muséd’Histoire Naturelle, he gained his doctoral degree in 1880 at Sorbonne. In 1886 he was elected Professor of Toxicology. In 1899 he took the Chair of Inorganic Chemistry. In the same year, he became Professor of Inorganic Chemistry, University of Paris. Moissan died in Paris on February 20, 1907.
