Otto Wallach (1847-1931)
Awarded the Prize “in recognition of his services to organic chemistry the chemical industry by his pioneer work in the field of alicyclic compounds.”German chemist. Wallach was born at Konigsberg on March 27, 1847. He studied at Berlin at Gottingen, where he obtained his Ph.D. in 1869. After a period in industry in Berlin he moved to Bonn in 1870, becoming Professor of Chemistry in 1876. He remained at Bonn until 1889, when he moved to a similar chair at Gottingen. He died on February 26, 1931 at Gottingen.
