Paul Sabatier (1854-1941)

Awarded the Prize “for his method of hydrogenating organic compounds in the presence of finely disintegrated metals whereby the progress of organic chemistry has been greatly advanced in recent years.”

French chemist. Sabatier was born at Carcassone in France on November 5, 1854. He was a student at the Ecole Normale, Paris, gained his Ph.D. from the Collége de France in 1880. Sabatier took charge of courses in physics in the Faculty of Sciences at Bordeaux before 1882. He became Professor of Chemistry at the University of Toulouse in 1884. He died on August 14, 1941 at Toulouse, France.
