
Theodore William Richards (1868-1928)
Awarded the Prize “in recognition of his accurate determinations of the atomic weight of a large number of chemical elements.”American chemist. Richards was born in Germantown, Pennsylvania on January 31, 1868. In 1883 he entered graduate Haverford College in science in 1885 entered Harvard University. He received his B.A. in 1886, his M.A. his Ph.D. in 1888. He became Instructor (1891), Assistant Professor (1894) Professor (1901). In 1903 he became Chairman of the Department of Chemistry at Harvard in 1912 he was appointed Erving Professor of Chemistry Director of the Wolcott Gibbs Memorial Laboratory. He died at Cambridge, Massachusetts on April 2, 1928.
