
Richard Adolf Zsigmondy (1865-1929)
Awarded the Prize “for his demonstration of the heterogenous nature of colloid solutions for the methods he used, which have since become fundamental in modern colloid chemistry.”German chemist. Zsigmondy was born in Vienna on April 1, 1865. He was educated at the University of Vienna University of Munich, where he acquired his Ph.D. in 1890. After periods at the University of Graz in a glass factory in Jena, in 1908 he became Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of G?ttingen, where he remained until his death on September 24, 1929.
