Theodor Svedberg (1884-1971)

Awarded the Prize “for his work on disperse systems.”

Swedish chemist. Svedberg was born at Gavleborg, Sweden on August 30, 1884. He was educated at the University of Uppsala, where he obtained his doctorate in 1907. He obtained a special appointment in 1909 as a Lecturer Demonstrator of Physical Chemistry in 1912 he was elected Professor of Physical Chemistry, University of Uppsala. He was made emeritus in 1949, was Director of the Gustaf Werner Institute for Nuclear Chemistry in the University. Svedberg died in Orebro on February 25, 1971.
