
Heinrich Otto Wiel (1877-1957)
Awarded the Prize “for his investigations of the constitution of the bile acids related substances.”German chemist. Wiel was born in Pforzheim, Germany on June 4, 1877. He was educated at the University of Munich where he obtained his Ph.D. in 1901. After teaching at the Munich Technical Institute the University of Freiburg, he was appointed Professor of Chemistry at the University of Munich, a post he retained until his retirement in 1950. Wiel died on August 5, 1957 in Starnberg.
