
Adolf Otto Reinhold Windaus (1876-1959)
Awarded the Prize “for the services rendered through his research into the constitution of the sterols their connection with the vitamins.”German chemist. Windaus was born in Berlin on December 25, 1876. He studied medicine at the University of Berlin at Freiburg University, where he changed to chemistry. He was appointed Assistant Professor in 1906 Professor of Applied Medical Chemistry at Innsbruck University in 1913. He became, in 1915, Professor of Chemistry at Gottingen, where he remained until his retirement in 1944. Windaus died on June 9, 1959 at G?ttingen.
