Hans von Euler-Chelpin (1873-1964)

Awarded the Prize “for investigations on the fermentation of sugar fermentative enzymes.”

Swedish biochemist. Euler-Chelpin was born at Augsburg in Germany on February 15, 1873. He was educated at the University of Berlin, University of Strasbourg University of Gottingen at the Pasteur Institute. In 1895 he took his doctorate at the University of Berlin. In 1898 he moved to Sweden being appointed to the staff of the University of Stockholm, where in 1906 he became Professor. In 1929 he also became Director of the Institute of Biochemistry where he remained until his retirement in 1941. He became a Swedish citizen in 1902. Euler-Chelpin died in Stockholm on November 6, 1964.
