Hans Fischer (1881-1945)

Awarded the Prize “for his researches into the constitution of haemin chlorophyll especially for his synthesis of haemin.”

German organic chemist. Fischer was born in Hoechst, in Germany on July 27, 1881. He gained his doctorate in chemistry at the University of Marburg in 1904. He also studied medicine at the University of Munich, gaining his M.D. in 1908. He was Assistant to Emil Fischer before occupying chairs of medical chemistry at Innsbruck (1916) Vienna (1918). In 1921 he succeeded Heinrich Wiel as Professor at the Technical Institute in Munich. Fischer died on March 31, 1945 in Munich.
