
Friedrich Bergius (1884-1949)
Awarded the Prize “in recognition of his contributions to the invention development of chemical high pressure methods.”German industrial chemist. Bergius was born in Goldschmieden on October 11, 1884. Bergius was educated in Breslau gained his doctorate at Leipzig (1907). He was Professor at the Technical University at Hannover (1909-14) then worked for the Goldschmidt Organization until 1945. After World War II he emigrated to the Argentine. Bergius died in Buenos Aires on March 30, 1949.
