
Frédéric Joliot (1900-1958)
Awarded the Prize “in recognition of his, with Iréne Joliot-Curie synthesis of new radioactive elements.”French physical chemist. Frédéric Joliot-Curie was born in Paris on March 19, 1900 died there on August 14, 1958. He was educated at the School of Industrial Physics Chemistry. In 1923 he began his research career at the Radium Institute under Marie Curie, where he obtained his doctorate in 1930. He was appointed to a new chair of nuclear chemistry at the Collége de France in 1937 was head of the new Commissariat de l’Energie Atomique. In 1956 he became head of the Radium Institute.
