Paul Karrer (1889-1971)

Awarded the Prize “for his investigations on carotenoids, flavins vitamins A B2.”

Swiss chemist. Karrer was born in Moscow on April 21, 1889. He was educated at the University of Zurich where he obtained his Ph.D. in 1911. After working in Frankfurt he returned to the University of Zurich in 1918, where he served as Professor of chemistry until his retirement in 1959. Karrer died in Zurich on June 18, 1971.
