Leopold Ruzicka (1887-1976)

Awarded the Prize “for his work on polymethylenes higher terpenes.”

Swiss chemist. Ruzicka was born in Vukovar, Croatia on September 13, 1887. He graduated in chemistry from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany. In 1926 he was appointed as Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Utrecht but in 1929 he returned to the Federal Institute of Technology at Zurich to take up a similar chair. Ruzicka died in Zurich on September 26, 1976.
