
Glenn Theodore Seaborg (1912-1999)
Awarded the Prize “for his discoveries in the chemistry of the transuranium elements.”American nuclear chemist. Seaborg was born on April 19, 1912 at Ishpeming, Michigan. He received his degree of Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley in 1937. He was appointed Professor of Chemistry in 1945 at the University of California, Berkeley. He was Director of the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory. In 1958, he was appointed Chancellor of the University of California at Berkeley, in 1961 Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission. Seaborg died on February 25, 1999 at Lafayette, California.
