Archer John Porter Martin (1910-2002)

Awarded the Prize “for his invention of partition chromatography.”

British biochemist. Martin was born on March 1, 1910 in London. He graduated from Cambridge University in 1932. From 1946 to 1948 he was Head of the Biochemistry Division of the Research Department of Boots Pure Drug Company in 1948 he joined the staff of the Medical Research Counci. He was appointed Head of the Division of Physical Chemistry at the Institute in 1952 he was Chemical Consultant from 1956 to 1959. From 1959 to 1970 he was director of Abbotsbury Laboratories, Ltd. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society. Martin died on July 28, 2002 in Llangarron, United Kingdom.
