
Hermann Staudinger (1881-1965)
Awarded the Prize “for his discoveries in the field of macromolecular chemistry.”German chemist. Staudinger was born on March 23, 1881 at Worms, Germany. He took his Ph.D. at the University of Halle in 1903. In November 1907 he was appointed Professor of Organic Chemistry at the Institute of Chemistry of the Technische Hochschule in Karlsruhe. From 1912, he was Lecturer at the Eidgenossische Technische Hochschule in Zurich, in 1926 he went to the University of Freiburg, becoming Lecturer of Chemistry. In 1940 he became Principal of the Research Institute for Macromolecular Chemistry. Staudinger died on September 8, 1965 at Freiburg.
