Linus Carl Pauling (1901-1994)

Awarded the Prize “for his research into the nature of the chemical bond its application to the elucidation of the structure of complex substances.”

American chemist. Pauling was born on February 28, 1901 in Portl, Oregon. He received his bachelor’s degree from Oregon State College in 1922, his doctorate from the California Institute of Technology in 1925. From 1927 until 1964, he was Professor of CIT. Later he was Chairman of the Division of Chemistry Chemical Engineering, as well as Director of the Gates Crellin Laboratories of Chemistry. From 1963 to 1967, he joined Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions in California; from 1967 to 1969, he was Professor at the University of California at San Diego; in 1969 he became Professor at Stanford. He won the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1962. Pauling died on August 19, 1994 at Big Sur, California.
