Pierre Curie (1859-1906)

Awarded the Prize “in recognition of the extraordinary services he has rendered by the joint researches on the radiation phenomena discovered by Professor Henri Becquerel.”

French physicist chemist. Pierre Curie was born in Paris on May 15, 1859. He received his early education at home before entering the Faculty of Sciences at the Sorbonne. He gained his Licenciateship in Physics in 1878 continued as a demonstrator in the physics laboratory until 1882 when he was placed in charge of all practical work in the physics Industrial Chemistry Schools. In 1895 he obtained his Doctor of Science degree was appointed Professor of Physics. He was promoted to be the Professor in the Faculty of Sciences in 1990, in 1904 he became a Titular Professor. In 1905 he was elected to the Academy of Sciences. Curie died in Paris on April 19, 1906.
