Nils Gustaf Dalén (1869-1937)

Awarded the Prize “for his invention of automatic regulators for use in conjunction with gas accumulators for illuminating lighthouses buoys.”

Swedish inventor. Dalén was born at Stenstorp in Sweden on November 30, 1869. He graduated in mechanical engineering in 1896 from the Chalmers Institute at Gothenburg. He became Technical Chief of the Swedish Carbide Acetylene, Ltd. In 1901 later joined the Gas Accumulator Company where he became Chief Engineer in 1906. In 1909, the company was reorganized as Swedish Gas Accumulator Ltd. With Dalén as Managing Director. He was a member of the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences. Dalén died in Stockholm on December 9, 1937.
