
Max Karl Ernst Ludwig Planck (1858-1947)
Awarded the Prize “in recognition of the services he rendered to the advancement of Physics by his discovery of energy quanta.”German physicist. Planck was born at Kiel in Germany on April 23, 1858. He was educated at the universities of Berlin Munich where he obtained his doctorate in 1879. He moved to Berlin in 1889 was appointed professorship in 1892. Afterwards he became President of the Kaiser Wilhelm Society for the Promotion of Science. The Prussian Academy of Sciences appointed him a member in 1894 Permanent Secretary in 1912. Planck died in Gottingen on October 3, 1947.
