
Albert Einstein (1879-1955)
Awarded the Prize “for his services to Theoretical Physics, especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect.”American theoretical physicist. Einstein was born at Ulm in Germany on March 14, 1879. In 1896 he entered the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich graduated in 1900. In 1905 he obtained his doctor’s degree. In 1909 he became Professor Extraordinary at Zurich, in 1911 Professor of Theoretical Physics at Prague. In 1914 he was appointed Director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Physical Institute Professorship in the University of Berlin. In 1933, he emigrated to America to take the position of Professor of Theoretical Physics at Princeton. He became a United States citizen in 1940. Einstein died at Princeton on April 18, 1955.
