Prince Louis-Victor Pierre Raymond de Broglie (1892-1987)

Awarded the Prize “for his discovery of the wave nature of electrons.”

French theoretical physicist. de Broglie was born in Dieppe, France on August 15, 1892. He was educated at the Sorbonne obtained his doctorate in physics in 1924. He taught there from 1926, serving as professor of theoretical physics at the Henri Poincare Institute (1928-62). He was elected a member of the Academy of Sciences of the French Institute in 1933 became its Permanent Secretary of the Academy of Sciences in 1942. de Broglie died in Paris on March 19, 1987.
