
Werner Karl Heisenberg (1901-1976)
Awarded the Prize “for his creation of quantum mechanics, the application of which has, inter alia, led to the discovery of the allotropic forms of hydrogen.”German theoretical physicist. Heisenberg was born on December 5, 1901 at Wurzburg, Germany. He studied at the University of Munich in 1920 at G?ttingen in 1922. In 1923 he took his Ph.D. at the University of Munich. In 1927, he was appointed Professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of Leipzig. In 1941 he was appointed Professor of Physics at the University of Berlin Director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Physics. In 1958 he was appointed Professor of Physics in the University of Munich. He was the director of Max Planck Institute for Physics Astrophysics President of the Alexer von Humboldt Foundation. Heisenberg died on February 1, 1976 in Munich.
