George Paget Thomson (1892-1975)

Awarded the Prize “for his experimental discovery of the diffraction of electrons by crystals.”

British physicist. Thomson was born in Cambridge on May 3, 1892. He graduated at the University of Cambridge. He was then appointed Professor of Natural Philosophy at the University of Aberdeen. In 1930 he was appointed Professor at Imperial College in the University of London in 1952, he became Master of Corpus Christi College. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society. Thomson died in Cambridge on September 10, 1975.
