Hideki Yukawa (1907-1981)

Awarded the Prize “for his prediction of the existence of mesons on the basis of theoretical work on nuclear forces.”

Japanese physicist. Yukawa was born on January 23, 1907 in Tokyo. He was educated at Kyoto University Osaka University, where in 1938 he was awarded his doctorate. He was Professor at both Osaka Kyoto from 1932 to 1938. He was invited as Visiting Professor to the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton in 1948, in 1949 Visiting Professor at Columbia University. He is a member of the Japan Academy, the Physical Society the Science Council of Japan, is Emeritus Professor of Osaka University. Yukawa died on September 8, 1981 in Kyoto.
