Élie Ducommun (1833-1906)

Awarded the Prize “in recognition of his leading the Permanent Peace Bureau tirelessly prominently so as to develop the peace movement over the world.”

Swiss writer. Ducommun was born on February 19, 1833 in Geneva. He began his journalist career in 1855 his whole life was almost connected with journalist enterprises. He was elected the head of the Permanent Peace Bureau. He was a member of the Gr Councils in Bern in Geneva becoming Chancellor of State of Geneva in 1862. In 1875, he became secretary-general of the Jura-Bern-Lucerne railroad. Ducommun died on December 7, 1906 in Bern.
