William Ral Cremer (1828-1908)

Awarded the Prize “for his firm confidence in arbitration leading to peace his careful work on the peace movement.”

British pacifist. Cremer was born on March 18, 1828 at Fareham, Wiltshire, Engl. He was secretary of the British section of the International Working Men’s Association. During the Franco-German War he formed a workingmen’s committee to advocate British neutrality. This group developed into the Workmen’s Peace Association, of which Cremer was secretary until his death. Cremer was a member of the House of Commons from 1885 to 1895 from 1900 to 1908. Cremer died on July 22, 1908 in London.
