Ernesto Teodoro Moneta (1833-1918)

Awarded the Prize “for his devotion to the international peace movement being its most important Italian representative, his work in the press meetings, both public private, for an understing between France Italy.”

Italian journalist international activist. Moneta was born on September 20, 1833 in Milan, Italy. At the age of 15 Moneta participated in the Milanese insurrection of 1848 against Austrian rule, in 1859 to 1860 he fought under Garibaldi in the victorious war of liberation. In his thirties he became editor-in-chief of the Milan newspaper Il Secolo, since 1898 he has published the periodical La Vita internazionale. He was a member of the Commission of the International Peace Bureau. Moneta died on February 10, 1918 in Milan.
