Fredrik Bajer (1837-1922)

Awarded the Prize “for he is an untiring advocate of the ideals of peace an extraordinarily prolific writer. In his many articles pamphlets about in favor of the cause of peace, he has dealt with practically all the problems involved in the peace movement.”

Danish writer politician. Bajer was born in Vester Egede, Denmark on April 21, 1837. He entered the Soro Academy in 1848. In 1856 he joined the army as a lieutenant. Mastering French, Norwegian, Swedish, he established himself as a teacher translator. In 1872 he was elected to the Danish House of Representatives. He was a founder of the Danish Women’s Association established in 1882 the Association for the Neutralization of Denmark, which was renamed the Danish Peace Association in 1885. Bajer died on January 22, 1922 in Copenhagen.
