International Peace Bureau, IPB (1891- )

Awarded the Prize “for its great contributions in maintaining the world peace promoting international cooperation.”

International organization. International Peace Bureau was founded in 1891 in Bern. The aims of the organization were outlined as: serving as a link between pacifists from around the world, providing information on the peace movement, preparing for implementing resolutions of the World Peace Congresses. In its early years the organization fulfilled these goals served as the major voice of the peace movement. The Peace Bureau regularly issued appeals for peace to any parties participating in or threatening war. The present aim of the International Peace Bureau is “to serve the cause of peace by the promotion of international cooperation nonviolent solution of international conflicts”.
