Léon Victor Auguste Bourgeois (1851-1925)

Awarded the Prize “for his important role in establishing the League of Nations.”

French politician. Bourgeois was born in Paris on May 21, 1851. He received his doctorate in law at the Law School of the University of Paris in 1875. He assumed many public office such as Secretary-general of some prefectures minister of some cabinets. He was appointed as Chief Commissioner of the Paris police in 1887. He was elected the first president of the Council of the League of Nations in 1920. Bourgeois died on September 29, 1925 at Chateau d’Oger, near épernay, France.
