Lars Olof Nathan S?derblom (1866-1931)

Awarded the Prize “for his efforts to further international understing through church unity.”

Swedish Lutheran archbishop theologian. He was born on January 15, 1866 in Trono, Sweden. He took his bachelor’s degree in 1886 at Uppsala University. In 1901 he became the first foreigner ever to earn a Doctor of Theology degree at the Protestant Faculty of the Sorbonne. From 1901 to 1914, he was a chair in the School of Theology at Uppsala University from 1912 to 1914, a chair at Leipzig University. He was elected in 1914 as archbishop of Uppsala, , in consequence, primate of the Church of Sweden. Soderblom died on July 12, 1931 at Uppsala.
