John Raleigh Mott (1865-1955)

Awarded the Prize “for his work in international church missionary movements.”

American evangelist. Mott was born on May 25, 1865 at Livingston Manor, N.Y. He graduated from Cornell in 1888. In the same year he became national secretary of the Intercollegiate Y.M.C.A. of the U.S.A. Canada. From 1915 to 1928, Mott was general-secretary of the International Committee of the Y.M.C.A. from 1926 to 1937 president of the Y.M.C.A.’s World Committee. Mott died in Orlo, Florida on January 31, 1955.
