
American Friends Service Committee (1917- )
Awarded the Prize “in recognition of its great contribution to the peace of mankind.”An organization founded by American Canadian Friends (Quakers) in 1917. It promotes peace reconciliation through programs of social service public information. During the World War II, AFSC helped refugees escape from Germany under Nazi aided victims of the war with its best efforts. After war, it engaged in relief reconstruction in many of the ries over the world. In peace time, AFSC engaged in national international programs in community development, racial reconciliation, aid to migrant workers, relief to civilians in war-torn areas refugee work. Headquarters of the organization are in Philadelphia.
